Individual Client Consultation Services

Discovery and Direction
If your child is struggling academically, this is the place to start. All clients are walked through a summary of our complete review of their child’s educational history to-date. This includes a review of all tests, assessments, report cards, IPRC and IEP documents, as well as in-depth “pass” questionnaires completed by parents. Parents will walk away with a clear understanding of why their child is struggling in school. This process provides parents with a solid outline of who their child is (learning needs and strengths), understanding of how they got here (struggling) and a step by step plan to help them be a successful learner in the classroom.

Drafting Needs Statements
Thinking you need a degree to understand what your assessments/tests/report card results say about your child and how they learn? Then this is the one tool every parent needs! Before you can ask for services/supports for your child at the school level, you need to have a clear understanding of what those needs are. A “parent written” needs statement is used to summarize and support the placement and learning needs of a child so they can be successful in the classroom. This complicated process is made easier through our services. We write them for parents with the Ministry/School language that needs to be used, and we coach parents on how to use it at all IPRC, IEP and school meetings. Our Needs Statements bring clarity to parents, teachers and school board personnel about exactly what your child needs to be successful in the classroom. (Please note that Needs Statements can only be drafted after a complete review of a child’s educational history)

IEP Review
To ensure the school has a plan with clear term/annual learning goals for your child’s educational progress, you need an IEP that reflects their learning needs and goals. This complicated process is made easier through our services. The reviewing of the IPRC documents ensures the right placement has been made for your child and that it matches your child’s IEP (Individual Education Plan). This is a vital step in preparing parents to “steer” School Resource Team (SRT) meetings about their child’s IEP for a more successful outcome.

Meeting Preparation
Sometimes having a good plan and the opportunity to rehearse it in advance leads to better results at the negotiating table. We offer parents the opportunity to strategize before those all important school meetings about their child and the services they need to be successful learners. We provide the tools, the plan and the confidence for parents to attend school meetings as an equal partner in their child’s educational planning. How to set the school meeting agenda and keep discussions on topic, how to invite the right people, how to redirect a meeting that has been derailed, and how to ask for what your child needs using Ministry and school language are discussed.
